From a previous Illustration Friday theme.

Paintings

Saturday, July 29, 2006

A couple of paintings I did that I hope to sell at the MAAD market next week. Or not, since I quite like them....

P.S These were scanned in. The scan is awful - I need to learn how to take photos of my paintings so they look better online.

Opposites

I thought that this was the theme on Illustration Friday, so I drew this before I realized it had changed to 'Clean'. Anyway, inked it with a brush and Zebra nib, with some Badger opaque airbrush ink because I don't have any Black Magic. No one sells it here. No one uses it here. Sad.

Colors later.

Clean

Ok it's done. For Illustration Friday's 'Clean' theme. Reason (as before, if you saw the WIP post):

It was the first thing that popped into my head. I think it's sorta a Macbeth reference, what with Lady Macbeth going cuckoo because she couldn't get herself clean. Or maybe I just have a fascination with girls with bloody fingers...

Clean - WIP

Friday, July 28, 2006

For Illustration Friday's theme of the week - Clean. I don't know, that's just how my brain works, the first thing that came to my head was a girl with blood on her hands. I think it's sorta a Macbeth reference, what with Lady Macbeth going cuckoo because she couldn't get herself clean. Or maybe I just have a fascination with girls with bloody fingers...

Venom monkey

Just quick doodles I did as warmups. Didn't want to spend too much time warming up today. Thought it looked kinda like Venom.

Various doodles

Saturday, July 22, 2006

Been busy drawing Mythandria and doing the GameAxis cover. Next week I have to draw Superman as Spiderman. SuperSpiderMan. Ugh.

Anyway a couple of doodly things.

Fenoril and Catarax from our comic, Nowhere. I got to thinking about inking the other day after talking to Kristal. I think I suck at inking; I can never figure where I want my blacks to go. But I kinda sorta like the look I'm getting with these. But Wayne likes the pencils and I honestly don't know if I can ink things like landscapes properly, so I guess we'll just be sticking with pencils for now.

Fen on a horsie. The horsie's leg is screwed, I know. Just a test to see if I can draw people on horses.

Various doodles from today's warmup. I got this nice book by this animator guy, so was in the mood of doing more cartoony sort of sketches. I quite like doing cartoony stuff but I am afraid of it as well. Partly I'm scared that if I only draw cartoony stuff then my sense of proportion will go out the window. That and I'll start to look like everyone else. And since I'm not a trained animator, that it'll look wierd.

I worry too much.

What I want

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

(This post doesn't have pictures. But I'm writing this down anyway since I remembered it and I think I shuld jot it down somewhere.)

The question about what I want has been an annoying thing to me for the longest time. Some people have a bad habit of popping the question time and again, which is really frustrating not because I don't have a clue about what I want, but because it's just a pretty long list that includes tangible and intangible stuff.

I think a lot of people don't really know what they want, which is why they ask the question in the first place. Or perhaps they want to her someone else state their wants and see that they acieve their goals, because they don't want to face up to the reality of their own wants. Or perhaps they are more sinister and simply wish to know what you want so that they can gloat about it when you don't achieve your ambitions. Or perhaps they are truely clueless and it's just one of those questions you ask when you're sorta out of things to say and want to try and stay relevant.

Anyway, on what I myself want, here's the list, as it stands in my head. I've also marked off the stuff that has already come to pass; hopefully everything gets checked off before I die, but if not, well at least I got some stuff done, which is more than I can say for some people.

Metal Gear Horsie

Was doodling this and played with some filters and it turned out kinda like the illustrations for Metal Gear. Sorta. Ok so I'm not that good. I'm going to sleep now.

Before dinner doodle

Was waiting for Wayne to bring back dinner.

Demon

Drew this yesterday while very, very tired. I hadn't slept well for days. Afterwards, I crashed for 12 hours. Today I feel much better.

Amazon scans

Saturday, July 15, 2006

Lately my friend Sonny was telling me that he scans his pencils in as RGB. I read somewhere online too that someone scans in the pencils as RGB, then uses the Hue/Saturation command in Photoshop to get rid of his blue lines.

So I tried both techniques and also my usual black/white photo scan. I can't really see the difference though, if I use the Hue/Saturation trick to elimiate the blues. The image in the middle looks a little lighter than the one on the right, but I could just reduce the levels on that to desaturate the blacks.

I guess I will stick with scanning in black and white for now.

Gen 13

Felt like drawing something superhero-y.

Zonk!

Behold, Zonk the Amazing Pigeon. He fights crime with his trusty helmet and cape. And poo. Actually he just poos. On things. It makes everyone mad. No one really likes poor ol' Zonk. It's sad being a superhero-pigeon.

Italy Win! Oh yeah and some animals.

Monday, July 10, 2006

Italy win the World Cup. Probably unfairly, but hey, I half-assedly routed for them. I wish Dino Baggio and Paolo Maldini were in the squad, but oh well I guess they're well over the hill now.

And on a unrelated note, I drew googly eyed animals.

Gloop.

Rogues and Spiders

Friday, July 7, 2006

Rogue as I remember her from the Xmen cartoon. Or from the Xmen - Jim Lee series. When she still was not Anna Paquin and had huge fluffy hair and a crush on Magneto or something like that.

Spiderwoman from the 80s cartoon. Or 70s. As I said, I hate the 'armpits' in the original design so they're just not here. And I hated how dowdy Jessica Drew looked normally. And she should have been Asian. Or half asian. Dammit.

Saturday Night

Sunday, July 2, 2006

Some time ago I was having a bad drawing day and I ended up sketching out a very simplified outline of a dancing girl. I sorta liked it and while clearing out the table yesterday I found that doodle. So I decided to rework it at a larger scale with more detail. I did keep the outline more or less the same though, which accounts for the more-stylized-than-usual hips and knees. I just find you get more action in a pose when you stretch the proportions and simplify things.

On a side note, I was also thinking of Abba's 'Dancing Queen' while doing this. Wayne says it reminds him of Dazzler, although I've never read anything with her in it so I'll just take his word for it.
